Chris was born in 1941 at Southend on Sea in Essex and spent three years full time learning to draw and paint at the Southend School of Art and Design. He chose to become a graphic designer by profession and, as an extension to his design commissions, started painting watercolours in 1970. To improve his skills, Chris attended many of the weekly residential courses held The Royal Watercolour Society. He also became a regular member of City Painters, a one day a month painting course around London, held by a leading member of the RWS, Sarah Holliday. Chris paints in watercolour, together with pencil and charcoal. The attraction of watercolour is the accidental quality that comes with the very wet paint. Inspiration for both abstract and realistic paintings comes mainly from the Sussex landscapes, farm buildings, fences, trees and paths. Chris’ paintings have been accepted for the RWS Open Exhibition at the Bankside Gallery on several occasions.
