Metalwork
I studied three-dimensional design at Brighton Polytechnic, graduating
in 1986 with a B A Hons Degree in Wood, Metal Ceramics and Plastics.
I now live and work in Lewes, Sussex. The inspiration for my metalwork
comes from nature, geometric forms and from working with the metal
itself. I often employ hammering and grinding to produce textures
which reflect light in different ways. I like to make my designs
as simply as possible, often from a single sheet of metal, using
just saw cuts and folds. Most of my designs are one-off pieces made
mainly using hand tools. I use a variety of metals including, brass,
copper, aluminium and stainless steel. Some of the work in copper
and brass is coloured using chemicals to add a patina or aged appearance.
I often work to commission and have produced items including, sundials,
hinges, trophies, clocks, mirrors and coffee-tables.
